New flexible display technology

First it was the plasma display panel, then the LCD (Liquid crystal) display. What’s next?

This Japanese video shows an amazing razor-thin display developed by Sony that bends like paper while showing full-color video. The display is only 0.3 millimeters, or 0.01 inch thick!

The new flexible screen combines two technologies: Sony’s organic thin film transistor, which is required to make flexible displays, and organic electroluminescent display.

Sony said it has yet to decide on commercial products using this technology but I wouldn’t be surprised if we start seeing electronic books or even newspapers and magazines using this new “electronic paper” technology in the near the future.
